How Much Do New Windows Cost in Essex? A 2025 Price Guide

CII Double GlazingGuides

Window pricing is one of the most searched topics in home improvement, and one of the most misunderstood. You'll find everything from "windows from £199" to quotes running into tens of thousands of pounds online, which makes it almost impossible to budget sensibly.

This guide is our honest attempt to give Essex homeowners a realistic sense of what new windows cost in 2025. We'll cover standard UPVC, aluminium, and some of the factors that affect price most.

A note on quotes: Every home is different. The prices below are indicative ranges. Get a proper survey and quote for your specific property before making any decisions.

What Affects Window Pricing?

Before we get into numbers, it's worth understanding what drives window costs:

Material: Aluminium windows cost more than UPVC for equivalent specifications. The aluminium extrusion process is more complex and the raw material is more expensive.

Size and number of openings: A larger window costs more than a smaller one. Similarly, a casement window (which opens) costs more than a fixed pane.

Glazing specification: Double glazing is standard. Triple glazing adds roughly 20-30% to the glazing cost but delivers meaningfully better thermal performance. Solar control or acoustic glazing also affects price.

Colour and finish: White UPVC is cheapest. Woodgrain foils and coloured foils add cost. For aluminium, any RAL colour is achievable but bespoke colours cost more than standard ranges.

Installation complexity: A straightforward like-for-like replacement on a ground-floor window is relatively quick. A first-floor window requiring scaffolding, or a structural alteration to the opening, costs more.

Indicative UPVC Window Prices (2025)

| Window Type | Single Unit (Supply & Fit) | |---|---| | Casement window (600mm x 900mm) | £450-£650 | | Casement window (1200mm x 1050mm) | £600-£850 | | French casement (double) | £800-£1,200 | | Sliding sash window | £750-£1,100 | | Bay window (3-pane) | £1,800-£3,000 |

These prices assume standard white UPVC with double glazing and basic ironmongery.

For a typical semi-detached Essex home (approximately 8-10 windows): budget £5,000-£9,000 supply and fit in UPVC.

Indicative Aluminium Window Prices (2025)

Aluminium windows are typically 30-50% more expensive than equivalent UPVC. For the same 3-bed semi, you'd be looking at:

£8,000-£15,000 for a full house of aluminium casements in a standard colour. Bespoke sizes, bi-fold configurations, or triple glazing would push that higher.

What's NOT Included in Most Quotes?

Be careful to check what any quote includes. Common exclusions:

  • Scaffolding: essential for upper-floor work and often quoted separately
  • Structural alterations: if you're enlarging an opening, this requires a builder and potentially structural calculations
  • Decoration: window reveals (the internal plasterwork around frames) often need touching up after installation
  • Disposal: some companies charge for removing and disposing of old frames

At CII Double Glazing, our quotes include removal and disposal of old frames as standard. We'll always be clear about what's included.

How to Get the Best Value

Get at least two or three quotes. Prices vary significantly between installers. Be suspicious of quotes that are dramatically lower than others without a clear explanation.

Ask what's included, and what isn't. A £400 "per window" headline rate that doesn't include scaffolding, disposal, or decoration might end up more expensive than a higher all-in quote.

Check accreditations. Assure Certification or another competent person scheme allows the installer to self-certify compliance with Building Regulations. Installers outside a recognised scheme may be cheaper but leave you with a compliance headache.

Consider finance. Spreading the cost of a full house of windows makes sense for many homeowners. CII Double Glazing offers finance options through approved partners.
