Specification Choices

Panel layout, opening width, and daily access

Start with the choices that decide whether a bi-fold will work in the actual opening: panel count, stack direction, everyday access, threshold level, and the items that need checking on site.

Made to measure

Panel count, guide price, and opening behaviour sit together

These are the four currently priced panel-count routes. The final layout still depends on the measured opening, how the leaves stack, whether a traffic door is needed, and the finished patio level.

2-panel bi-fold

2-panel bi-fold

From£1,799

from price for a 2-panel fitted set

Best for narrower rear openings where the homeowner wants more clear access than a standard hinged pair, without turning the elevation into a full wall of folding glass.

  • Narrower rear openings
  • Simple everyday operation
  • Lower stack weight than wider sets
3-panel bi-fold

3-panel bi-fold

From£2,699

from price for a 3-panel fitted set

A common mid-size route for kitchen extensions and rear rooms where the traffic-door position usually matters as much as the folded opening.

  • Medium garden openings
  • Traffic-door position agreed early
  • Threshold confirmed at survey
4-panel bi-fold

4-panel bi-fold

From£3,599

from price for a 4-panel fitted set

A wider family-opening option where one-way or split-stack planning needs to work with the room layout, patio furniture, and daily route through the door.

  • Wider rear elevations
  • One-way or split-stack layouts
  • Good for larger kitchen openings
5-panel bi-fold

5-panel bi-fold

From£4,499

from price for a 5-panel fitted set

The largest currently priced layout, suited to broad openings where maximum clear access is the priority and there is enough room for the folded stack.

  • Largest current guide option
  • Stack space checked first
  • Panel weight confirmed from sizes

Guide prices are starting points, not final quotes. Dual colour, upgraded hardware, specialist glazing, threshold changes, making good, and unusual site conditions are quoted separately. Aluminium supplier costs can move, so written aluminium quotes are normally held for around 7 days.

Optional Upgrade

Integral blinds for a cleaner bi-fold opening

Integral blinds suit bi-fold projects where the finished opening needs to stay sleek and uncluttered. The blind sits inside the glazed unit, so there are no loose cords, no exposed slats to clean, and no surface-mounted blinds fighting with the folded panel stack.

White internal bi-fold doors with integral blinds sealed inside the glass units

Between-glass shading

A discreet blind sealed inside the glass unit, planned panel by panel during survey.

Useful on bi-folds when

  • The rear room is overlooked but still needs a wide garden opening
  • Curtains or surface-mounted blinds would clutter the folded stack
  • You want glare control without losing the minimalist aluminium look

Blind types we can discuss

Magnetic integral blinds

A slim magnetic slider raises, lowers, and tilts the blind inside the sealed glass unit.

Electric integral blinds

Remote operation suits larger panes, harder-to-reach glass, and cleaner contemporary rooms.

What we check

  • Panel size, glass weight, and unit depth
  • Traffic-door position, handles, and threshold detail
  • Whether the blind layout should cover every pane or only selected panels

Magnetic and electric options can be discussed. Suitability depends on pane size, panel layout, glass specification, and final survey.

Ask about bi-fold blind upgrades

Aluminium bi-fold doors are usually chosen when a Romford or Essex home needs the rear opening to fold back as widely as possible. They suit kitchen extensions, garden rooms, open-plan rear elevations, and external patio-door openings where panel count, stack direction, traffic-door position, threshold detail, and patio levels all affect daily use. We show approved 2, 3, 4, and 5-panel guide prices as a starting point, then confirm the measured opening, colour, glazing, threshold, hardware, access, and making good before issuing the fixed quote.

How It Works

From Survey to Sign-off

Step 1

Survey & opening check

We measure the structural opening, check squareness and lintel, compare internal and patio floor levels, and plan stack landing space and the traffic-door hand.

Step 2

Made to measure

Frames are powder-coated to your chosen RAL colour, with glazing, threshold, and hardware locked to the agreed panel layout and panel weights confirmed from the sizes.

Step 3

Install & sign-off

Our Cii team fits the set, adjusts the fold and traffic door, weather-seals it, and walks you through the operation at handover. Assure certification is provided on completion where applicable.

Before installation

Installation and aftercare

The quote should cover the door set and the practical work around it: access, opening preparation, levels, planning checks, and what happens after the doors are fitted.

Fitting time

Straightforward replacements are usually fitted in one to two days once manufactured. Structural work or floor-level changes are planned separately.

Existing or widened opening

We check the aperture, lintel, brickwork, and making-good scope before confirming whether the existing opening is enough.

Planning position

Most like-for-like replacements do not need planning permission, but listed buildings, flats, and conservation areas should be checked first.

Aftercare

Keep tracks clear, clean the powder-coated frames with mild soapy water, and rely on the Cii 10-year installation guarantee after handover.

Bi-folds, sliding doors, or French doors?

The right garden door depends on whether you care most about the clear opening, the closed view, or simple everyday access.

Thoroughly recommend this company. From the first call I was given really helpful advice and fitters came out the next day. The fitter was very knowledgeable and helpful, completed the job, and gave good advice on other areas we needed looking at. Will definitely use again and have no hesitation recommending them to friends and family.

Good price and hassle free. The doors look brilliant, exactly what we wanted. The fitters were friendly and left everything spotless.
