Overview

What is an aluminium tilt & turn window?

Aluminium tilt and turn windows are for rooms where access, ventilation, and a cleaner frame line all matter. The sash tilts inward at the top for secure everyday airflow, then turns fully inward for cleaning, purge ventilation, or access. Cii supplies and fits aluminium tilt and turn windows across Romford and Essex, checking internal clearance, handle position, blinds, tiles, furniture, glass specification, and fire-escape requirements before recommending this opening style.

Tilt mode supports secure day-to-day ventilation before full inward opening

Class 4 air permeability and 9A water tightness on the tested platform

Secured by Design and PAS 24 options available

Single and dual-colour aluminium powder coating across the RAL range

A practical option for upper floors because the external face can be cleaned from inside

Tilt-and-turn handle finish

Tilt-and-turn windows use one handle for both opening modes. Finish choice is kept clean so the hardware does not fight the wider frame or the interior room style.

Design Choices

Choose opening mode and performance package

This aluminium tilt and turn range is normally specified around ventilation control, internal cleaning access, and glazing performance.

Made to measure

Three ways to tailor how the window behaves

Tilt and turn hardware lets the same aluminium platform handle secure everyday ventilation, full inward access, and upper-floor practicality.

Secure tilt ventilation

Secure tilt ventilation

Tilt mode opens the sash inward at the top only, so you can keep air moving through the room without committing to a full opening.

  • Controlled background ventilation
  • Useful for bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms
  • More secure day-to-day setting than a fully open sash
Full inward opening

Full inward opening

Turn mode swings the sash fully inward for easy cleaning, quick purge ventilation, and better access on difficult elevations.

  • Clean the outer pane from inside
  • Useful where external access is awkward
  • Suitable for larger sash sizes with the right hardware set
Upper-floor and apartment layouts

Upper-floor and apartment layouts

The combination of inward cleaning access, slim aluminium framing, and secure tilt mode makes this route particularly strong for apartments and upper-storey rooms.

  • Popular on apartment elevations
  • Practical for upper-floor rooms
  • Keeps the aluminium sightline neat on contemporary schemes

Tune the build-up around heat, noise, and security

Glazing thickness and hardware choice can be adjusted by elevation, room use, and security target without changing the overall frame family.

Double or triple glazing

Double or triple glazing

Glazing build-ups from 24mm to 40mm let the system stay efficient on standard double glazing or step up to triple glazing where the brief is more demanding.

  • Double glazing route from 1.4 W/m²K
  • Triple glazing route to 1.2 W/m²K
  • Warm-edge spacer and low-E glass options
Acoustic and solar control glass

Acoustic and solar control glass

Acoustic laminates and solar-control glass can be specified room by room, which matters on roadside elevations, bedrooms, and sun-exposed upper floors.

  • Useful for apartments near traffic noise
  • Solar-control glass helps limit summer overheating
  • Can be mixed around the property by opening
PAS 24 and Secured by Design

PAS 24 and Secured by Design

Where the project needs tested security, the same platform can be upgraded with PAS 24 and Secured by Design-compliant hardware packages.

  • Multi-point locking hardware
  • Secure tilt ventilation for day-to-day use
  • Specified around the final window size and opening mode

Final glazing and security combinations depend on sash size, location, and whether the window is being used as a fire-escape or high-level vent.

Product fit

Secure ventilation and inward cleaning in a slimmer aluminium frame

Aluminium tilt and turn windows are mainly chosen for access and control: tilt for secure ventilation, turn for cleaning from inside, and a stronger contemporary frame line than a standard uPVC route. They are especially useful on apartments, upper floors, bathrooms, kitchens, and rooms where outward-opening windows are awkward.

Best fit for

  • Upper floors where internal cleaning access matters
  • Rooms needing secure background ventilation
  • Modern elevations where a clean aluminium frame is preferred

Consider another option when

  • Internal space is too tight for the sash to turn inward comfortably
  • The project needs the lowest-cost tilt-and-turn route
  • The elevation would look better with a standard casement, flush sash, or vertical sash

What we check on survey

  • We check internal clearance for the turn function before recommending it.
  • We confirm handle position around blinds, tiles, sinks, furniture, curtains, and reveals.
  • We compare aluminium, uPVC, and standard casement versions where budget, sightline, and opening practicality all matter.

Optional Upgrade

Built-in shading for aluminium tilt and turn windows

Aluminium tilt and turn windows are often specified for apartments, upper floors, and contemporary rooms. Integral blinds can keep the inward-opening function clear while giving the room privacy, glare control, and a cleaner architectural finish.

Integral blind control detail inside an aluminium-style glazed unit

Privacy without reveal clutter

A useful option where the window needs to tilt, turn, clean from inside, and still look minimal.

Useful on aluminium tilt and turn when

  • The sash opens inward and loose blinds would be awkward
  • Upper floors need privacy without losing cleaning access
  • The room has a modern aluminium frame specification

Blind types we can discuss

Magnetic integral blinds

A slim magnetic slider raises, lowers, and tilts the blind inside the sealed glass unit.

Electric integral blinds

Remote operation suits larger panes, harder-to-reach glass, and cleaner contemporary rooms.

What we check

  • Glass unit size and cavity depth
  • Handle position, reveal depth, and room layout
  • Whether magnetic or electric operation is worth pricing

We check turn clearance, handle position, blind controls, and glass specification together before quoting.

Core Information

Key information for Aluminium Tilt & Turn Windows

The main performance, specification, and installation details that shape how this product works in practice.

Best For

Where this range fits best

Apartments, maisonettes, and upper-floor rooms where inside cleaning matters

Homes needing secure background ventilation without leaving a sash fully open

Modern refurbishments where aluminium sightlines and RAL colour choice matter

Energy efficiency

Built on the AluK 58BW TBT tilt-before-turn platform, these windows use thermally broken framing with polyamide thermal breaks and glazing compatibility from 24mm to 40mm, like the aluminium casement range. Whole-window U-values start at 1.4 W/m²K and can reach 1.2 W/m²K with triple glazing, allowing the aluminium frame aesthetic without giving away the thermal standards expected on current residential work.

Security

Tilt-before-turn hardware gives a useful security advantage in day-to-day use because the window can ventilate in tilt mode without opening fully. The underlying system can also be specified to PAS 24 and Secured by Design standards, making it suitable for projects where controlled ventilation and tested security both matter.

Colours and specification

The finish range covers standard favourites such as anthracite, black, and white, plus bespoke RAL powder coating and dual-colour combinations. Aluminium also keeps the frame profile visually tighter than bulkier replacement systems, which is often a deciding factor on contemporary projects.

Installation and guarantee

Cii's aluminium tilt and turn installations are covered by our 10-year installation guarantee and signed off on completion to the agreed project specification.

Modern Ventilation

Built For Rooms Where Access And Airflow Matter

Aluminium tilt and turn windows are built around secure ventilation, clean sightlines, and easy cleaning access, which makes them a practical choice for upper floors, apartments, and openings you cannot reach from outside.

Tilt-before-turn ventilation

Tilt-before-turn ventilation

Secure top ventilation comes first, then the sash can open fully inward when you need full access or cleaning.

Ideal for upper floors

Ideal for upper floors

The inward-opening action makes the outer pane easier to reach from inside, which is a major practical benefit upstairs.

Cleaner contemporary lines

Cleaner contemporary lines

Aluminium keeps the frame profile visually neat and crisp, which suits modern refurbishments and apartment-style elevations.

Security-led specification

Tested security standards sit alongside the practical day-to-day benefits tilt and turn users expect from this opening style.

How It Works

From Survey to Sign-off

Step 1

Survey & clearance check

We measure every opening and check the lintel, sill, and reveal, then plan each window around the inward action: whether furniture, curtains, blinds, taps, or a deep window board would catch the sash as it turns, where the single handle sits for easy reach, how upper-floor rooms will be cleaned from inside, which rooms need a restrictor or a fire-escape sash, and where secure tilt-mode ventilation matters most. We agree single or dual-colour powder coating and the security specification before quoting.

Step 2

Made to measure

Each window is built to the measured size on the thermally broken 58BW TBT tilt-before-turn platform, with the tilt-and-turn hardware, 24mm to 40mm double or triple glazing (acoustic or solar-control where specified), the powder-coat RAL finish inside and out, and PAS 24 or Secured by Design hardware where the project calls for it, all locked together before manufacture.

Step 3

Install & operation check

Our Cii team fits and seals each frame, then sets the tilt-before-turn hardware so the sash tilts securely at the top and swings fully inward for cleaning, checks the handle throw and any restrictor, fits trickle vents where Building Regulations require them, and hands over with the Cii 10-year installation guarantee and Assure certification.

Outstanding from start to finish. The casement windows are a perfect fit and the energy difference is already noticeable. The lads were tidy, efficient, and clearly knew their trade.

Replaced all 12 windows across our Victorian terrace. Every window fits perfectly, the sightlines are great, and the house is noticeably warmer. Superb job.
